IN THE LIFE OF A COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENT: SURVIVAL DIARIES

Image
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/lHhL2Cj1zSY/maxresdefault.jpg Everyone loves to discuss the perks of studying Computer Science — six-figure salaries, travel opportunities, free food, and endless networking events. But behind the scenes, it’s a different story. Those rewards come at the cost of hard work, sleepless nights, and a complete overhaul of your daily routine. Over time, it can take a serious toll, leading to mental health struggles, chronic stress, and even major health problems. This is the Survival Diary of a Computer Science student — a glimpse into the real journey behind the glamorous surface. HOW TO SURVIVE CS "What do you mean, surviving CS? I don't care — as long as I get that six-figure salary, that's all that matters." This mindset is more common than you think. Many students prioritize landing the "six-figure job" over caring for their mental and physical health. As a result, they sacrifice sleep, skip regular health check-ups, and abandon any s...

IN THE LIFE OF A COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENT: Is this degree EVEN worth it?

Image
https://www.explore-group.com/blog/do-you-need-a-cs-degree-to-be-a-developer/bp78/  " Computer science is so hard, and I have to take unnecessary classes which I am most likely not even going to use once I start working." .... Is It Really Worth All This Draining? YES ! Let me just say that by the time I was in 6th grade, I was already 100% sure I wanted to major in Computer Science. And I had three solid reasons: 1. I had been doing Computer Science since middle school. 2. Computers fascinated me. 3. I was really good at it. WHY CS? So… here’s the thing: I’d been doing Computer Science since 6th grade. And let me just say that it was pretty interesting, for someone that wasn't really interested in technology from a younger age I would say that I was really fascinated by it once I got to learn everything about a computer- from the basics like hardware and software - I became fascinated. Fast forward to high school... I kept pursuing Computer Science and learned something ...

IN THE LIFE OF A COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENT: Does my GPA matter?

Image
https://iecs.vn/quy-doi-diem-he-10-sang-he-4/  Does my GPA even matter? Should I attend lectures? From a student that has been there Let me just say, the first few weeks of Uni are the most productive weeks throughout your whole semester. In those first weeks, you're likely to stay on top of lectures and assignments. Unfortunately, as time goes on, you’ll most likely start missing classes. SO... DOES GPA EVEN MATTER? So, does your GPA really matter? The answer is both no and yes. Your grades don't really matter in the sense of, if you're in a STEM based field recruiters/hiring managers don't focus much on your transcript, rather on your level of experience; projects you've worked on outside school, the impact, leadership roles as well as how fast you're to adapt and how keen you're on learning to be great within your domain. Yes. Your Grades Do MATTER! Apart from just your experience, your academics also sets you apart and that's because it showcas...

In The Life Of A Computer Science Student: Finding Your Place

Image
https://www.hw.ac.uk/online/postgraduate/mba-specialism-in-strategy.htm The industry of tech and literally just being a Comp Sci major is exhausting. From learning a new programming language, practicing Leet code problems, searching for parttime jobs or internships for experience and catching up with a lot.... I mean A LOT of DEADLINES The pressure just gets worse. It does not mean that you should stop there though, take me for instance I am a fulltime CS major who's tackling not just CS but Cyber Security as well. I am in a Cyber Club to learn about a lot of fun stuff from Linux and open- source distributions such as Ubuntu, Kali, Red Hat etc. but the real reason is because I want to gain more experience outside of my field. But apart from just venturing in Cyber, I am also learning and familiarizing myself with programming languages, upcoming software and creating personal projects to build my portfolio.  Which requires discipline and consistency to actually complete those tasks....
