Episode 5: The Reality of Being a Computer Science Student -What Nobody Tells You Author's Note: The experiences shared in this article are based on my own journey as a Computer Science student. What has worked for me may not work for everyone, but I hope these reflections encourage you to find a healthy, sustainable way to navigate your own path. If you've been following my In the Life of a Computer Science Student series, welcome back. One thing I promised myself when I started writing these posts was that I'd share the real experience- not just the highlight reel. When people hear that I'm studying Computer Science, they usually have one of two reactions. "You must be a genius." Or... "Can you hack into someone's Instagram?" I usually laugh, but those moments remind me how many misconceptions there are about this degree. The truth? Computer Science has been one of the most rewarding and most challenging experiences of my life. As I'm wri...

Episode 4: Is Computer Science Really Worth It? "Computer Science is so hard." "I'm never going to use half of these modules." "Maybe I chose the wrong degree." If you've ever had one of those thoughts, you're not alone. At some point, almost every Computer Science student questions whether the late nights, endless assignments, debugging sessions, and constant learning are actually worth it. I've asked myself the same question. And every single time, my answer has been the same. Yes. Not because it's easy. Not because of the salaries. But because of what this journey has taught me. It Started Earlier Than Most People Think By the time I was in sixth grade, I already knew what I wanted to study. Computer Science. Looking back, it's funny because I wasn't one of those children who spent hours taking computers apart or writing code before secondary school. Instead, I became fascinated by something much simpler. I wanted to understa...

Episode 3: Surviving Computer Science Author's Note: The experiences shared in this article are based on my own journey as a Computer Science student. What has worked for me may not work for everyone, but I hope these reflections encourage you to find a healthy, sustainable way to navigate your own path. When people talk about studying Computer Science, they usually talk about the exciting parts. The six-figure salaries. The remote jobs. The hackathons. The innovation. The opportunity to build the next big thing. And while all of those things are real, they're only half the story. Behind every successful project are countless hours of learning. Behind every internship offer are rejected applications. Behind every polished portfolio is someone who has spent late nights debugging code that refused to work. Computer Science is rewarding. But it can also be exhausting. This isn't an article about surviving assignments. It's about surviving the journey. The Cost Nobody Talk...

Episode 2: Does GPA Even Matter? Does your GPA really matter? Should you attend every lecture? Is it possible to maintain good grades and work on personal projects at the same time? If you’re a Computer Science student, these questions will hit you at some point-usually right after the first wave of assignments starts landing. Let’s talk about it. The Reality of University Rhythm Something I’ve noticed is that the beginning of every semester feels almost deceptively easy. In the first few weeks, everything feels structured. You attend lectures consistently, stay on top of readings, and tell yourself: “This semester is going to be different.” And for a moment… it is. Then deadlines start stacking. Workload increases. Energy drops. And slowly, attendance and consistency begin to shift. That’s usually when the real questions start showing up. So… Does GPA Even Matter? The honest answer is: yes and no. The “No” side In the tech industry-especially in STEM fields-your GPA is not the only t...

Episode 1: Finding Your Place In Computer Science The tech industry-and honestly just being a Computer Science student-is exhausting. It’s not just coding. It’s learning new programming languages, grinding LeetCode problems(Which is a total time waste at this time), searching for internships or part-time experience, and trying to survive what feels like an endless stream of deadlines. And somehow… the pressure keeps increasing. But that doesn’t mean you stop. You adapt. You learn how to move differently. For context, I’m a full-time Computer Science student currently exploring not just CS, but also Cyber Security. I was part of a Cyber Club where I got to interact with tools like Linux and different open-source environments such as Ubuntu, Kali Linux, and Red Hat. On the surface, it looks like “extra work.” But for me, it’s about exposure. It’s about building skills outside the classroom and understanding how the real world of tech actually operates. Alongside that, I’m constantly lear...
